The Surveillance Project started by accident. It began one afternoon while walking around Downtown Winnipeg, I stopped to take what would become the first photo in this series, a shot of a CCTV camera mounted to a wall in an alleyway. Apparently the sight of my camera, aimed straight into the lens of the CCTV camera caught the attention of a security guard, who rushed outside to confront me. In an accusatory tone I was questioned about my intentions and told that I could not take pictures in that particular location. A short argument ensued, but in the end I walked away not wanting to stir up too much trouble. As I later reflected on the event I decided to make a point of taking photos of many of the CCTV cameras I came across on a daily basis.
